Thomas J. Muckian

May 20, 1933 ~ September 8, 2018 (age 85)

Thomas J. Muckian (Tom) of Lynn, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 after a brief illness. He was 85 years old. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Thomas J.and Mable A. (Lord) Muckian, Sr. Tom was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. Tom worked as a shoe pattern maker for the Bee-Bee Shoe Co. of Manchester, NH, Copley Shoe Co. of Wakefield and Gambit Shoe of Lowell as well as various other shoe companies throughout New England. Tom was an instructor at the former Lynn Shoe School teaching classes in shoe pattern making. He also worked in the Pari-Mutuel Departments at Suffolk Downs and Wonderland Greyhound Park as a Mutuel Clerk. Tom played and officiated basketball and baseball in the Lynn Park League, coached CYO basketball at St. Patrick’s Parish, bowled in the C.L.A. Bowling League at the West Lynn Post Office Lanes. While serving in the United States Army, Tom was a member of the Fort Devens Boxing Team and competed in the Lowell Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament. Tom enjoyed reading, stamp collecting, word games and cribbage. He was a long-time member of Cocktail League Associates, The Lynn Classical Monogram Club and was a communicant at the former St. Patrick’s Parish in West Lynn. Tom was a long time Boston College Football season ticket holder and, after retirement, enjoyed road trips to many BC away games. Tom is survived by his five children; Susan E. Carroll and her husband Jack of Lynn, Mary-Beth Muckian of Marblehead, Kathy M. Birmingham and her husband Michael of Georgetown, MA, Kristen K. Giovanniello and her husband Christopher of Aliso Viejo, CA, and John K. Muckian of Ipswich, MA, his eight grandchildren; Jack, Michael, and Billy Carroll, Owen, Aidan and Keilan Birmingham, Adele and Terrence Giovanniello, his siblings; Mrs. Jane Harrington of St. David’s, PA and Mr. Frank Muckian and his wife Patricia of West Newton, MA, his former wife; Kathleen Connell of Lynn, MA. He is preceded in death by his daughter Maureen A. Muckian of Lynn. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins and his god child; Kim Carmody of Nahant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial funeral service Thursday Sept. 13th at 11:00 AM in the Nadworny Funeral Home 798 Western Ave., Lynn, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours prior to service from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM.
