Founder / Funeral Director
David J. Solimine, Sr. founded the Solimine Firm in 1965. Dave and his late wife, Mary Jane (Melanson) raised four children; David, Jr., Susan Solimine, Diane Edgett, and Kristen Steriti. They are the proud grandparents of 14 and great grandparents of 6. A lifelong Lynn resident, Dave takes pride in his deep community roots. Dave raised his family in the house he was born in (August 30, 1935) on Spruce St. on West Lynn's "Nanny Goat Hill". He has moved only once in his lifetime (in 1985) after constructing a new home 300 feet from his birthplace. Dave's early working years were in partnership with his parents, Damiano and Agnes, as a wholesale florist in the greenhouse business located behind the family homestead. Dave's love of flowers has been evident over the years with annual plantings at both funeral homes.
A dedicated and active community leader, Dave has served on numerous boards and committees and is a member of several organizations. As a proud graduate of Lynn Classical High School Class of '53, he has been a lead organizer of the LCHS Alumni Association where he also has sponsored annual scholarships for current graduates. His life long devotion to Sacred Heart Parish Community is well known. He has been an active member and officer of the Valladolid Council Knights of Columbus in Lynn for over 45 years. In recent years Dave has raised thousands of dollars for needy families in partnership with the Salvation Army Item Santa Drive. His approach to community and charity involvement is deeply rooted in the Solimine organization.
Dave's approach to funeral service always focused on the details. He has always sought to find ways to personalize funerals for the families he serves. His dedication to the well-being of every person he meets is well known. Dave continues to oversee the firm he founded to ensure that the needs and concerns of every family we serve are met.
Funeral Director
David J. Solimine, Jr. joined his father in the business in 1978 after graduating from New England Institute of Funeral Service. Dave has two sons, Michael and Joel. Michael graduated from Plymouth State University in 2007 where he majored in Business Management. He is a construction supervisor and property manager for Solimine Development Corp. and is a Licensed Real Estate Broker. Joel graduated from Bentley University in 2009 where he received a Bachelors Degree in Business Management. Joel also earned an Associates Degree with Honors in Funeral Service at Mount Ida College in Newton, and is a Licensed Funeral Director, managing day to day operations of the funeral home.
As a youngster, Dave learned an early work ethic by assisting his father and grandparents in their greenhouse business. As a teenager, he started his training in funeral service. Early on, he took over many of the management responsibilities for his father's growing business. Dave, Jr. had a lead role in the design and construction of our main location at 426 Broadway. He was also responsible for negotiating and coordinating the purchase of the former Rhodes Funeral Home at 67 Ocean St. in 1984, the purchase of the Landergan Funeral Home in 1996, the purchase of the Richardson Funeral Home in 2003, and the Nadworny Funeral Home in 2022. With an entrepreneurial spirit and an eye for watching the details that he learned from his father, Dave, Jr. has also pursued interests outside of funeral service. He has been an active investor and developer of real estate over the years. He is currently developing the site of the former Union Hospital.
Dave has been an active and committed community leader. He is a member of several organizations and has served on several boards and committees. He is most proud of his membership in the Lynn Knights of Columbus. He is a Past Grand Knight and Former District Deputy as well as former Cub Scout Leader. Dave is noted for leading a drive to raise over $100,000 to construct a new handicap addition to the K of C Hall and serving as volunteer general contractor. Dave currently serves on the boards of All Care Hospice and the American Red Cross. He is Past Chairman of The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce and Past President of the YMCA of Metro North. Dave lives in Lynn with his wife, Magnolia Contreras.
Owner / Funeral Director
Joel C. Solimine started working at the family firm while he was in high school. From an early age, he knew he wanted to follow his father and grandfather into funeral service. Helping continue the tradition of exceptionally compassionate and attentive funeral service is one of his driving goals.
Joel is the son of Patricia (Szczechowicz) Solimine and David J. Solimine, Jr. He is married to Deena (Cole). He attended Lynn Public Schools, graduating from Shoemaker Elementary and Pickering Middle School. His high school years were spent at St. John’s Prep in Danvers where he graduated in 2005. He received his Bachelors Degree in Business Management in May of 2009 from Bentley University. While working full time at the funeral homes as an Apprentice Funeral Director, Joel earned an Associates Degree with Honors in Funeral Service, from Mount Ida College in Newton. Joel is a Type 3 Licensed Funeral Director and Licensed Insurance Agent.
Joel was an active participant in Lynn sports programs as a youngster. He played baseball with Wyoma Little League and Lynn Babe Ruth. He participated in Lynn Youth Soccer and CYO Basketball. Joel was a member of Cub Scout Pack 5 and Boy Scout Troop 80. He also took an active part in youth golf clinics at Gannon Golf Course and has become an avid golfer. Joel also helps drive the Solimine Funeral Home's support of community programs and charities. During his off time he enjoys skiing in the winter, golfing in the summer, and traveling with his wife Deena.
With a friendly and outgoing manner, Joel has always enjoyed meeting new people. His deep concern for others serves him well in his funeral service career. Joel manages a dedicated staff of men and women who are committed to the families we serve. He is responsible for managing daily operations and continuing improvements to the facilities and services we provide our community.
Funeral Director
David B. Richardson joined the Richardson Funeral Home in 1964 after having served in the military. The family business began in 1872, on the corner of Smith and Union Streets, Lynn, as a combination Livery Stable and Undertaking Parlor. The Richardson family purchased the Clark estate on Lafayette Park, Lynn, in 1921 where it continued to operate until October of 2003 when the business was purchased by the Solimine family.
Dave and his Wife Margie (LeBlanc) were born in Lynn where they lived until moving to Swampscott in 1998, an now resides in Essex. They have five boys, Brian, Alan and Dale Richardson and Peter and Brian DesRosiers.
Over the years Dave has been President of the Greater Lynn Jaycees, Lynn Visiting Nurses Association, Greater Lynn Council of Churches, where he is currently Secretary, and the Swampscott Historical Society. He is Past Secretary and present member of the Rotary Club of Lynn, where he was Secretary for many years. Dave is on the Board of Directors of the Equitable Co-Operative Bank, Lynn, Safe Harbor Retirement, and the Lynn Home for Elderly Persons. He is also a member of Mt. Carmel and Golden Fleece Lodge of Masons, Lynn, an Honorary Member of Philanthropic Masonic Lodge, Marblehead, the Beefeaters Steak Club #1, and all York and Scottish Rite Bodies, as well as the Aleppo Temple, Shrine. He is a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lynn.
In his lifetime in funeral service, Dave has dedicated himself to placing the needs of the grieving family first, and to paying close attention to their feelings and emotions, at what is the most difficult time in their life.
Funeral Director
John E. Sullivan joined funeral service in 1969 in the City of Boston. He worked with the Landergan Funeral Home in Lynn, from 1973 through 1984. He then joined the Solimine and Rhodes firm. His good relationship with Bill Landergan made the merger of Solimine and Rhodes with the Landergan firm a very smooth and successful transition.
John was born in the Bronx, New York and raised in Woodridge, NY, a small town in the Catskill Region of New York State. He has been a Lynn resident since a vacation brought him to the city in 1969. He now lives in Salem with his wife Barbara (Dollard) Sullivan, also a funeral home employee. John is the proud Dad of Sam Sullivan and Lauren Michaud and Step-Dad of Brian Paone. Sam is married to Miranda (Sverker) and they are parents of three of John and Barbara's grandchildren, Sam, Marley, and Jordan. Lauren is married to John Michaud, they are the parents of John and Barbara’s grandchildren; John and Rowan. Brian is married to Lieutenant Commander Stephanie (Sayward) and they are the parents of four of John and Barbara's grandchildren; Analise Reilly, Everett Brian, Tullie Sayward, and Edelweiss Mary. He attended Boston State College and is a 1970 graduate of New England Institute of Funeral Service.
John is a member and past president of the Wyoma Lions Club, Lynn. His interests include woodworking and a variety of music.
Over the years, John has been requested by many families to be the celebrant at funeral services. His easy way with people has made this an easy fit for families who do not have strong religious affiliations. In 2007, John completed the In-Sight Institute Funeral Celebrant Training to become a Certified Celebrant. John enjoys the service he provides and is often asked for by families he has served in the past.

Michael W. Phelps has been associated with the funeral home since 1987 when he began working part-time as a wake attendant. In 1994 Michael joined the firm as a full-time employee. Prior to his work at the funeral home, he was a supervisor at GE in Lynn until his job was eliminated in 1992.
Michael was born in Lynn, and has remained in Lynn for his entire life. A 1976 graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Michael and his wife Peggy (Coughlin) have 4 children, Theresa and her husband Daniel, Michael Jr., and his wife Thespina, Timothy, and his wife Lauren, and William and his wife Jillian; as well as nine grandsons; Samuel, Michael III, Luke, Benjamin, John, Liam, Nikko, Charlie, and Max and four granddaughters Juliana, Zoey, Rorey and Ryan. He received his Associate Degree in Funeral Service from New England Institute of Funeral Service, at Mount Ida College in 1994. Having a strong determination to continue his education in the area of Funeral Service, he earned the Certified Preplanning Consultant (CPC) designation in 1998 and the Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) designation in 2001 from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice and the Funeral Service Education Foundation. He attends required annual continuing education classes to maintain these designations. It's Michael's attention to detail and compassionate professionalism that makes him such an appreciated member of Solimine Funeral Homes.
Michael and his family are active members and volunteers for many organizations within the City of Lynn. He is a six-term Past President of Wyoma Little League, a Past President and member of the Wyoma Lions Club, a Past Grand Knight of Valladolid Council #70, Knights of Columbus, Lynn, a member of the Druillette Assy. 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and a former member of the board for MA Little League District 16, the Greater Lynn Challenger Little League, and the Lynn Classical High School Alumni and Friends Association. Michael also has previously served as a Board Member and President of the Community Minority Cultural Center, and also as a member and former chairman of the City of Lynn’s Licensing Board.
Michael is the funeral director in charge of the firm's pre-arrangement program. He has a strong determination to continually update his education in this area of funeral service. He is committed to serving each individual according to their requests so they can be assured that their final wishes will be carried out at their time of need.
Funeral Director
Lisa M. (Martel) Smith joined the firm while still a college student in 2000. Since the age of 12 she has wanted to become a funeral director.
Lisa resides in Peabody with her husband and childhood sweetheart Jeff and their daughters, Julia and Katelyn. She is the daughter of Mary Martel of Peabody and Dave Martel of Lynn. She is a 1995 graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, Peabody. She received her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Radford University, Virginia, in 1999 and her Associates Degree in Funeral Service from Mount Ida College, Newton, in 2000. In 2005, she earned the Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) designation from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. Lisa is a member of Radford University's Beta Gamma Sigma, an honors business fraternity.
Her community activities are widespread and varied. During her college years, as a member of Delta Zeta sorority, she was a leader in raising money for Galludet University for the Speech and Hearing Impaired as well as working with Habitat for Humanity. Lisa is currently involved with Girls Inc. of Lynn, North Shore Partnership for Compassionate Care, a group formed through Hospice of the North Shore, which aids the community in handling end of life issues and a member of North Shore Women in Business. She is a member of St. Ann's Parish in Peabody where she is a Lector, choir member and on the Parish Pastoral Council and liturgy committee.
At a young age, Lisa learned the importance of compassion for a family at their time of loss. Throughout her day, whether she is caring for the deceased, meeting with a family or carrying out any one of the tasks associated with her position, she shows the utmost concern and respect for the families that are being served.
Funeral Director
Brian M. Field joined the firm in September 1996 on a part time basis. He became a member of the full time staff in January of 1998. Brian was sworn in as a funeral director in May of 1998.
Brian was born, raised, and currently resides in Lynn with his wife Stefani (Messinger) and their three children, Sydney, Tyler and Emma. His parents Stella (Gideika) and Howard are residents of Lynn. He is a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Class of 1994 and The National Education Institute for Funeral Service in New England.
Brian was elected to the Lynn City Council in 2017 and currently serves as 1 of 4 Councilors-At-Large for the City of Lynn. He is a member of the Friendly Knights of St. Patrick, Mass Senior Action Council, North Shore Latino Business Association, Pine Hill Civic Association, Friends of Lynn and Nahant Beach, Knights of Columbus Valladolid Council #70, Lynn, the Wyoma Lions Club and associate member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 10, Lynn.
Brian is also a volunteer, former coach and proud suporter of many youth athletic programs and community, civic and church organizations throughout Lynn. They include Pine Hill, Wyoma, West Lynn, East Lynn and Lynn Shore Little Leagues; Lynn Classical, Lynn English, Lynn Vocational Institute and St. Mary's High Schools; Lynn Youth Hockey, Lynn Youth Soccer, West Lynn and East Lynn Pop Warner, Camp Fire North Shore, LYSOA Inc., and My Brother's Table and more.
Brian is an active volunteer on many campaigns and is an elected member of the Lynn Democratic City Committee. He is an avid Boston sports fan, especially the Bruins and the Red Sox. He enjoys gardening, fishing and spending time with his beloved dog, Cooper.
Brian's compassion for the families he serves, is reflected in the comments they share; "On behalf of our family and friends, Thank You for what you do.
