Josephine F. Allen of Lynn passed away on September 30 at a local nursing home after a brief illness. She was 90 years old. Josephine was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Przychodzien) Novak. She was born in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1944. Josephine was the wife of the late Howard Allen, Sr. They were married for 68 years and had two sons, Howard Allen, Jr. and Kenneth Allen. Josephine was a former parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in Lynn. From the late 60’s through the early 80’s she and her husband Howard regularly attended polka dances around the North Shore. During that time they often traveled with a group of friends to Pennsylvania and the Catskill Mountains to dance to their favorite Polka Bands. The couple enjoyed an active social life including vacationing in the Caribbean and Hawaii. Josephine was employed by Sylvania GTE for 30 years. She started at the Boston St., Salem Plant and moved to Endicott St., Danvers in different office positions until retirement in 1986. After retirement she and her husband Howard spent winters on the west coast of Florida. In the early 80’s they bought a cabin on Lake Arrowhead in Limerick, Maine where they spent time enjoying their five grandchildren. Josephine is survived by her son Kenneth Allen and his wife Jean (Alex) Allen, and daughter in law Janet (Allen) Lewis. She leaves a sister, Mary Rowe of Cornwall, VT and five granddaughters: Amy Altimare and her husband Brian of Lancaster PA, Lori Caron and her husband Robert of Haverhill, Valerie Allen of Swampscott, Cynthia Donnelly and her husband Tarek of Danvers, and Susie Allen of Lynn. She was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Isabella, Lillian, and Audrey Altimare, Bobby and Katie Caron, and Brady Donnelly. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Genevieve Spenard, husband Howard Allen, and son Howard Allen, Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Wednesday October 4th from the Nadworny Funeral Home 798 Western Ave., Lynn at 9 AM, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann’s Church, 136 Lynn St. Peabody at 10 AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours Tuesday, from 3pm-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN 38105.
